I wrote this song for my brother, William, who I lost to COVID-19 last month. It's my first single ever and is available on all streaming platforms. It's about how even though he is gone, I know that one day I am going to see him again. I cried writing it, I cried recording it, and as you will see in the video, I cried making the video. He was only 32 years old and was a patient in a nursing facility that unfortunately had over 100 people contract the virus. I miss my brother a lot. We would bond a lot over music in general. He was the dopest rapper that I knew. He was self conscious about his voice because of having a tracheotomy in the early part of his life, but his voice was my favorite thing about his songs. Aside from his dope penmanship. You can check out some of his music here. Unfortunately we never made a song together, but I plan to do a collaboration with one of the tracks he has on his SoundCloud. He would tell me a lot that he was really proud of me following my musical journey. It always meant so much to me when he would tell me he liked something that I did. I had a dream that he texted me and told me that he liked this song. I am going to assume that means I have his stamp of approval.
If you've been following me for a while you know that following my dream of singing, and inspiring other people to follow their dreams is something that is very important to me. It drives me. When I lost my brother I decided that I was not going to let up on my Dream Chase. I feel like there has already been so much time that has gone by that I haven't devoted enough attention to my purpose, and I just don't want to let up. I don't think my brother would want me to either. So I have released my first single, and it is a song for my brother. I think that is really special.
I am very sad that my brother is not in my life anymore but I am comforted to know that he is no longer suffering and that I will see him again.
Here are the lyrics and video to the song.
Back To You
Verse 1:
I never thought I’d see the day
I wouldn’t get to see your face
Never thought I would be writing this kind of song, for you
I wish God would have let you stay
I know you’re in a better place
I’m sitting here fighting tears trying to be strong for you
Prechorus:
I love you, I’ll always love you
I already miss all the talks we used to have
I miss you, can’t believe that’s it’s true
I’ll see you again I promise, that’s a fact
Hook:
Just as sure as the sun will rise
I know that one day we’ll meet in the sky
I promise I’ll make it back to you
Just as sure as the sun sets west
I know that we got more time left
I promise I’ll make it back to you
Verse 2:
Sorry that I didn’t do enough
To make life on this earth less tough
I didn’t give all you needed in the moment
But I know when push comes to shove
I know that you felt my love
And I’m so thankful for every single moment
Prechorus:
I love you, I’ll always love you
I already miss all the ways we used to laugh
I miss you, can’t believe that’s it’s true
I’ll see you again I promise, that’s fact
Hook:
Just as sure as the sun sets west
I know that we have more time left
I’m gonna make it back to you
Just as sure as the sun sets west
I know that we have more time left
I promise that I’ll make it back to you
Thank you for taking the time to listen to this song. I hope that it brings comfort to you if you are experiencing the grief of losing a loved one. Until I see you on the next one, keep dreaming with your eyes wide open!
